Review by G. W. Hill
Rating: 4 and a half (out of 5)

It wouldn’t be much of a stretch of the imagination to think that this song was some long lost hit from the 1970s. Sure, the production feels more modern, and there is a bit more of an edge, but it really fits well into the whole glam rock sound of the 70s. If this had been released in 1975, it would have been a huge hit, going into heavy rotation on the radio and selling millions of copies. It’s that kind of song.

Drums kick the song off and the driving rhythm is one of the biggest factors to it. The guitar sound is crunchy and fuzz-laden. The vocals are gritty and almost screamed. The hooks are quite contagious. The lyrics are more about word play than they are about meaning. For that reason, they really flow well. The piece just rocks. It’s literally exactly the kind of hard rock that was such a staple of 1970s popular music.

There is a melodic drop back mid-track with vocals over just the rhythm section. The call and response (or perhaps more echo) dual vocal arrangement on that part is very effective. The melodic, soaring guitar solo that follows works well. When it works to more hard-edged, gritty guitar soloing from there, it really delivers a new level of cool. The cut resolves out from there for one more vocal section before it ends.

This is a fairly short song. It packs are punch, though. Besides, there’s no point in doing more than “get in, do your job and get back out.” Too many artists seem to feel the need to keep going forever. “Keep them wanting more” should be the mantra, and is here. This is bluesy and gritty. It has a great groove. It’s got catchy hooks and a classic sound. Most importantly, it’s fun.
